Program Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze interior spaces critically in terms of spatial layout, materiality, and lighting through observation, drawing, and modeling.

  • Evaluate interior environments in relation to human scale, cultural context, and diverse physical and experiential needs.

  • Demonstrate applied understanding of materials and fabrication systems through spatial representation, detailing, and design decision-making.

  • Apply historical, theoretical, and precedent-based research to inform interior design thinking and decision-making.

  • Develop and integrate individual areas of inquiry and interest into the conceptual framing of interior design work.

  • Effectively communicate design intentions in visual and verbal form.

  • Understand, apply, and account for health, safety, and welfare considerations through spatial layout, scale, circulation, and material choices.

  • Respond to spatial challenges through concept generation, iteration, and design development across a range of interior contexts, from residences to retail spaces to public buildings.

  • Demonstrate awareness of social, cultural, and economic contexts and reflect these considerations in design analysis and representation.
