Veterans Benefits and Student Veterans Services

The New School has a long history of welcoming veterans and military-connected students into its dynamic programs. Recognizing the unique life experience and demonstrated potential of those who serve, we have deepened our commitment by establishing our Center for Military-Affiliated Students (CMAS), a resource hub designed to guide and support all veterans, service members, and military spouses and family members from admission to graduation and beyond.

CMAS ensures that veterans and dependents get the support they need to transition smoothly into an academic setting and civilian life. Through individualized resources and in-person social and educational programming, CMAS creates a community that supports military-connected students in identifying and achieving their goals. We offer personalized onboarding to assist with education benefits and tuition assistance, career coaching, academic counseling, and an on-campus Mil/Vet Student Lounge. We encourage military-connected students to take advantage of all we have to offer.

Degree Opportunities

The Bachelor’s Program for Adults and Transfer Students (BPATS) was founded in 1943 to serve veterans returning from World War II. It is designed to meet the needs of adult students seeking freedom, flexibility, and a personalized experience as they complete their degree. It is also the only undergraduate program at The New School with a Prior Learning Assessment program, allowing students to seek transfer credit for college-level learning attained through work, life experience, military service, and artistic pursuits.

Veterans and their dependents with the appropriate academic credentials are eligible to apply to any undergraduate and graduate program in the New School’s five colleges in addition to the BPATS program. For more information on particular majors and degree programs offered within each of the colleges, please visit their websites:
