Description
In this course we will explore the blurry line between the physical and digital interfaces with which we engage every day. Through a series of sprints and projects, students will gain experience prototyping and building interactive objects and digital interfaces. We will use cardboard, sensors, 3D printing, HTML and Javascript. Understanding how these materials relate will help us engage critically with the concepts of connected objects and the place of digital interfaces in our lives. With a core focus on new approaches to prototyping and fabrication, the projects are designed to facilitate learning through making (ideally making weird stuff). We will ask questions such as: What does the primitive slab of a smartphone offer as a blank slate? What do javascript and doorknobs have in common? Can a dollar store be a resource for prototyping? How do we hack existing tools to create new products?
Open to: All university undergraduates. Pre-requisite(s): none.
